It is easy to repair a paint mishap, whether you need to tidy up a paint job you have just completed or fix a previous paint problem. Do-it-yourselfers often struggle with the most intricate parts of painting a room, namely around doorways and trims and keeping a neat line where the wall meets the ceiling.

Fixing wall ceiling paint line. The tricky part, at least for me, is getting a straight line between the white ceiling and wall. Good news, you don’t have to be Picasso to learn this. And you can cheat a little by using the right supplies – which cost only $27 and can be used for years!! Last weekend I had to paint a bathroom ceiling. It's rare to have to sand a wall or ceiling before touching up roller marks, but that may be necessary if you notice drips or if you're if using textured paint. When you have to sand, use 120- or 150-grit sandpaper, and apply light pressure. The point is simply to flatten the dried paint, not remove it. 2. Assess your ceiling paint job's problem areas. If there are just a few lap marks, try fixing them by touching up the paint. Open the paint you originally used for the ceiling, dilute it with a. Again, make sure the paint on the wall is perfectly dry before you do this. Step 5 Climb up the ladder with an open can of primer. Brush a layer of primer over the streaks on the ceiling.. Go up your ladder, and roll the paint onto the ceiling at an angled stroke up to the left and back. Then, at an angle, stroke up to the right and back.

If you have a water-stained ceiling, a stain-blocking primer is mandatory to prevent the stain from bleeding through a fresh coat of paint. You could roll on primer, but there are two spray-can products you should consider first: Kilz Upshot and Zinsser Covers Up are both stain-blocking primers, and both have nozzles that shoot upward—perfect. The other method to hide uneven wall to ceiling joints is to paint a line along your bathroom wall as opposed to a line on the ceiling. The tools you will need are the same the only addition is a spirit level because the ceiling/wall line will be uneven so you want to create a level beginning point. This method takes a little practice, but with the right paint brush and a steady hand, you can paint a perfect line where the wall meets the ceiling. Using a high-quality angled brush, apply paint to the wall about 1/4″ down from the ceiling. I like using a 2″ angled brush. Do not reload the brush with paint. Whats the difference?? Your paint brush making a straight line or your five in one?? both are done by your hand and eye. try a bead of caulk to fill in that irregular gap between the wall and ceiling and then cut your wall to the ceiling. scoring the corner will most likely leave a black line during change of seasons

There are a few tricks to getting a smooth, consistent coat of paint on the ceiling. First, work in sections about 5 or 6 ft. square. Move quickly from one section to the next to make sure the paint along the edge doesn't dry before you roll the adjoining section. How to Caulk Your White Ceiling to Create a Perfect Line. 1. After your wall and ceiling paint is dry, apply a line of painter’s tape on the wall about 1/4 inch from the ceiling. Also, apply a line on the ceiling about 1/4 inch from the wall. We love the Scotch 3M Delicate Blue painter’s tape. 2. Then—using a putty knife, wire brush, or paint scraper—carefully remove all the chipped or peeling paint from the walls and ceiling. Advertisement STEP 2: Prep the surface. Sloppy Edges. Even with the best painter’s tape, getting an even line when painting a ceiling can be difficult. To fix this issue, tape off the ceiling in a straight line exactly where you want.

To fix these paint streaks on walls you’ll need to sand down the raised edges. You may have to touch up the wall here and there but that’s only if you sand too closely. You’ll want to use 120 – 150 grit sandpaper and sand lightly. Sanding too hard can take off the flat paint, which would mean another coat application. String a nylon mason's line between the first top nails on the two strips. Hold a scrap piece of strip next to the string at the furring strip centerline marked on the ceiling. If the string is below the furring strip, ignore it for now. If the strip projects past the string, measure the amount, and write it on the ceiling. Ceiling cracks that run across the ceiling to the wall and then downward on the wall; basically a continuous crack going through the ceiling and the wall. This type of crack suggest that there may be a structural issue, i.e. a foundation issue or framing issue. Ceiling cracks running diagonally across ceiling Let the paint dry overnight. Do not pull the tape off right after painting. Letting the paint dry completely lessens the elasticity of paint build-up along the edges, making it easier for the paint to break right at the tape line. On the flip side, you don't want to wait too long to take the tape off either.
